Zia Engineering and Environmental Consultants, LLC (Zia) has immediate openings in the Las Cruces, NM office for Senior Civil Design Engineers with exceptional design, transit/transportation and water experience.
 
Zia is actively engaged in the planning and design of streets, highways/freeways, as well as site work, storm water handling, hydrology and hydraulics. Our leadership team is looking for Civil Engineer/Project Managers with 8 to 10+ years of professional experience. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated prior experience as the Project Manager/Project Engineer with direct responsibility, or as the Lead Engineer reporting directly to the Project Manager. Experience in drainage, grading, wet utilities, dry utility coordination, right of way engineering, cost estimating, specification writing, and report writing is a plus.
 
The Senior Engineer serves in a lead role to provide QA/QC support and mentorship to other civil division staff; duties will include providing technical, marketing and project management support for civil, water, wastewater, and environmental engineering activities for non-federal and federal projects; Ensuring timely, quality, and cost-effective work; and will perform other duties as assigned..
 
Must have the knowledge to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engineering and regulatory requirements, and the engineering process. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and have the ability to communicate at a high level as primary author of technical reports; Interface with clients, government regulators, other contractors and other project stakeholders..  Must work well with others in order to successfully respond to proposals, manage project teams, and correspond with clients, funding agencies and regulatory agencies..  Requirements include:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading design, design collaboration, and/or design management
  • Experience in transit/transportation and water
  • An entrepreneurial spirit..

Education and Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related Engineering field, is required. Degree must be from an accredited University. This position requires a current Professional Engineer (PE) license (NM preferred) with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states within six months..
 
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of professional civil engineering experience is required. Professional experience must include at least three years of direct major project management..  A minimum of 8 years of design experience is also required..
 
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common engineering and technical journals, financial reports and legal contracts; and effectively present information, and respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and/or other engineers and team members; Ability to present information and deliverables in a manner that exudes quality, commitment, and service..
 
Special Considerations: Successful candidate must be able to pass a physical examination and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. This position requires a valid driver's license and ability to obtain security clearance up to and including secret, if required. Drug testing may be required..

Environmental /Field Technician

Zia Engineering and Environmental Consultants, LLC is seeking a motivated and experienced Environmental Technician to support water/wastewater field sampling in our Las Cruces office.

Duties for this position will include:

  • Provide water/wastewater sampling support for various sampling event activities.
  • Conduct grab sampling and/or conduct automated composite sampling including, calibration, setup, and takedown, and decontamination of sampler equipment, obtaining samples and shipping/chain of custody to laboratories, breakdown and decontamination of equipment

Essential Functions

This position requires a solid understanding of water/wastewater sampling techniques, and the associated equipment.  Sampling may be take place 2 to 3 times per week at multiple sites throughout New Mexico. Field Samplers collect water/wasterwater samples and prepare chain of custody and shipping/transport to laboratories.


Competencies

Must have working knowledge of and experience in:

  • Water/wastewater sampling protocols and using automated sampling equipment.

  • Shipping and chain of custody procedures.

  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to work well independently and in a team.


Minimum requirements: A high school diploma, associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one year of related experience and/or formal training as an environmental field technician. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable as determined by Human Resources. 


Additional requirements include:

  • OSHA HAZWOPER - Health and safety training (24-hour training minimum, 40-hour preferred)

  •  Able to pass medical screening

  • Able to lift minimum 50-lbs

  • Willing to travel

  • Willing to work flexible hours

  • Hourly position, typically 20-40 hours per week depending on need

  • Active driver’s license and insurable

  • Ability to pass background check for access to secured facilities

Range Management/Natural Resources Inventory

Zia Engineering & Environmental Consultants, LLC has a need for two-person teams to collect range, pasture and BLM lands data for natural resources inventories (NRI) for the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). NRI instructions for on-site data collection can be reviewed at:

The period of performance is between March 2021 – September 2021 and will involve fieldwork during the summer heat.

This position is statewide and does not require the applicant to be located in a specific area of the state.

The positions are part-time/on-call as segment/point locations are obtained to inventory.

Zia will provide vehicles for each team requiring applicants to have a valid driver’s license for insurance requirements.

Field duration depends on the location of the data collection sites and from the site of mobilization. Travel will include local day trips as well as overnight from one to 5 nights. Per Diem and lodging expenses are paid by Zia.

Requirements:

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Range Management or a related discipline (preferred); or coursework with a combination of biological, physical or earth science with minimum 15 hours in such subjects as soil genesis, pedology, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertility.

Experience: Working knowledge of Range Science/Plant Science and Field data collection including field experience in western states.

Knowledge: Native plant identification, soil science,use of GPS equipment, field data recording instruments/ computers, compass, clinometers and other equipment is a plus. The applicant should have a working knowledge of the NRI grazing land field protocols and should be comfortable with outdoor field work.

Requirements: Education & Experience

 

A. Bachelor’s degree in Range Management or a related discipline. Unofficial Transcripts required upon request. Course requirement of at least 42 semester hours combination of plant, animal and soil sciences, and natural resources management as follows:

Range Management – 18 hours

Plant, animal & Soil sciences – 15 hours

Related resource management studies – 9 hours


OR


B. Combination of education and experience-at least 42 semester hours of coursework in the combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences and natural resourcesmanagement shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

 -AND-

One year of specialized experience in rangeland plant identification andrangeland site inventory methods as qualified by human resources – OR - 2 years ofprogressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master’s degree.

 

Knowledge and competence in rangeland management to perform work involving the preservation, development and management of rangelands. This includes the ability to analyze and protect the natural resources, to develop programs and standards for rangeland use and conservation, and to advise State officials, and private and Indian landowners in rangeland management practices.
