Zia Engineering and Environmental Consultants, LLC is seeking a motivated and experienced Environmental Technician to support environmental field studies and water/wastewater field sampling in our Las Cruces office. Duties for this position will include:
Essential Functions
This position requires a general background in environmental field studies and a solid understanding of water/wastewater sampling techniques, and the associated equipment. Field studies and sampling may take place 2 to 3 times per week at multiple sites throughout New Mexico. Periodic overnight travel is required from time to time. Field sampling for water/wasterwater will include collection of samples and preparation of chain of custody and shipping/transport to laboratories
Competencies
Must have working knowledge of and experience in:
- General understanding of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
- General knowledge of soils sampling protocols using various techniques and equipment.
- Willing to support others in asbestos and lead sampling efforts.
- Direct knowledge in water/wastewater sampling protocols and using automated sampling equipment.
- Prior experience in labeling and shipping field samples and chain of custody procedures.
- Have excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to work well independently and in a team.
- Willing to support other environmental field efforts including environmental site surveys and cultural resources surveys.
Minimum requirements: Ahigh school diploma, associate’s degree preferred or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years of related experience and/or formal training as an environmental field technician. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable as determined by Human Resources.
Additional requirements include:
- OSHA HAZWOPER – Health and safety training (24-hour training minimum, 40-hour preferred)
- Able to pass medical screening
- Able to lift minimum 50-lbs
- Willing to travel (including periodic overnight travel)
- Willing to work flexible hours
- Hourly position
- Active driver’s license and insurable
- Ability to pass background check for access to secured facilities
Special considerations: Unofficial transcripts, including OSHA HAZWOPER certification (24-hour minimum; 40-hour certification preferred), will be requested upon interview. This position requires a valid driver’s license and drug testing may be required.
